Falls can occur from the use of poorly fitting shoes and slippers or wearing no shoes or slippers or backless, floppy footwear.
It is advisable for elderly people to wear sensible, low heeled shoes and slippers that fit well and give plenty of support. A non slip sole is also a good idea as smooth soles can easily slip on waxed or polished floors. When the shoes or slippers are taken off there should be no markings on the feet.
